Social Function / Purpose : to describe the way things are, with reference to a range of natural, man-  made and social phenomenon in our environment

Generic Structure:

General Classification : tells what the phenomenon   under discussion is (menceritakan/mengenalkan           benda  atau fenomena yg akan dideskripsikan. Biasanya berupa definisi / pengertian umum    atau pengelompokan secara umum)

Description : tells what the phenomenon under discussion is like in terms of  (1) parts, (2) qualities, (3) habits or  behaviors, if living;  uses, if non-natural.

(mendeskripsikan benda atau fenomena dalam hal bagian-bagiannya, kualitas/keadaannya, kebidasaan atau perilakunya (bila makhluk hidup) atau kegunaannya (bila benda mati)

Fish

             Fish are animals that live in water

            Fish have fins that help them to swim. Most fish have slimy skins covered with scales which are very small and can hardly be seen.

            Fish breathe through gills. These look like a comb and lie on each side of the head. Fish take in the water all the time. The water flows in through the mouth, over the gills, and out through the sides of the head. When a fish takes in the water, it is not drinking but breathing, and the gills absorb oxygen from the water.

            The body of a fish made up of the head, the trunk, and the tail fins.

          There are many different kinds of fish which have many different shapes and colors. Some fish are long and thin, while others are flat and rounded. Most fish have bodies which broad at the trunk region and narrow towards the head and tail.

Plants

             Plants are living beings. They need food, water, and air for survival.

            Plants derive their food from the earth and the air. If you look at their roots, you will find that the ends of these roots are like fine fibers. We call them, root-hairs. They absorb water and minerals, then transport them upwards to the leaves through the trunk and the branches. It is the leaves which prepare the food.

              The green material, chlorophyll, prepares the food like a machine. It converts the carbon dioxide taken from the air and water from the ground into sugar with the help of sunlight. The chemical reaction is called photosynthesis. In fact, the chlorophyll takes the energy from the sunlight and uses it to synthesize the hydrogen from water and carbon dioxide for making sugar. This reaction also gives out oxygen and water which are excreted by the leaves.
